Police Decide Against Charges After Glastonbury Stage Remarks Investigation

British police announced on Tuesday that no further legal steps would be taken over comments delivered during a controversial Glastonbury Festival performance in June.

Avon and Somerset Police said the decision followed a detailed review of evidence measured against prosecution standards set by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The inquiry centered on a performance by punk duo Bob Vylan, where lead singer Bobby Vylan led chants aimed at the Israeli military.

Those chants referenced the Israel Defense Forces, an organization closely linked to ongoing military operations in Gaza at the time.

Police stated clearly that the available material did not support a realistic prospect of conviction under current criminal law.

As part of the investigation process, officers interviewed a man in his mid-thirties and contacted around two hundred members of the public.

The on-stage remarks provoked strong reactions nationwide, including criticism from Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Israeli Embassy in London.

Britain’s publicly funded broadcaster, the BBC, also faced backlash for allowing the performance to continue airing via live stream.

In closing the case, police emphasized they weighed intent, context, case law, free speech considerations, and maintained engagement with Jewish community groups.
