UK Counter-Terror Police Foil Suspected Attack Plot in Nationwide Operation

British counter-terrorism police have arrested five men, including four Iranian nationals, suspected of orchestrating a terrorist act, as confirmed in a statement by London’s Metropolitan Police. The arrests followed an ongoing investigation into an alleged plot to target a specific location within the United Kingdom. Authorities carried out coordinated raids across several areas on Saturday, leading to the apprehension of the suspects. The exact site believed to be targeted has not yet been disclosed to the public.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, emphasized the rapid pace of the investigation. He confirmed that the police are working closely with representatives from the potentially affected location to keep them informed of any developments. Although specific details remain limited, Murphy assured that public safety remains the top priority as the inquiry continues.
The suspects were detained in several parts of the country, including Greater Manchester, London, and the town of Swindon. Among those arrested are Iranian nationals aged between 29 and 46. They are currently being held under the UK’s Terrorism Act, while the fifth man—whose nationality and age have not been confirmed—was arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. All five individuals remain in custody for further questioning.
Investigators are still in the early phases of determining the motivation behind the alleged plot. Multiple lines of inquiry are being pursued to assess whether the suspects were acting alone or as part of a larger network, and to evaluate any potential threat to public safety. Police have not yet ruled out the possibility of further arrests or threats linked to the case.
Commander Murphy acknowledged potential public concern in light of the arrests and urged people to stay alert. He encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity, no matter how minor it may seem, as a precautionary measure. The Metropolitan Police continues to treat the case with urgency, aiming to uncover the full extent of the planned attack and ensure the safety of communities across the UK.
